An evening to remember in Sohar

 Indian Social Club, Sohar came of age on 12th July 2010 when it hosted for the first time a Cultural Event in Sohar. The occasion was the Ghazal performance by artistes from India organized with the help of the Indian Embassy in Muscat. The Ghazal programme was held in the Auditorium of Sohar University.

It was an evening the likes of which has not been seen by the Indian Community of Sohar. The mesmerizing Ghazals rendered by Mrs. Charanjit Soni and Mr. Farid Ahmed Khan transported the audience to the era gone by.

Apart from a few of their own compositions, they sung Ghazals from maestros ranging from Mehdi Hassan, Begum Akhtar, Ghaulam Ali, Jagjit Singh and even one composition of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal Emperor of India. The audience sat riveted to the performance and the request for Ghazals of their choice flowed in.

The audience travelled long distances from as far as Shinaz to come to the Ghazal function. Dr Meer Ali, an Omani national and a medical practitioner in Shinaz was all praise for the event and hoped to see more of such events hosted by Indian Social Club, Sohar.

Momentoes to the artistes were distributed by Mr. Bhaskar Dutta, CEO, Al Jazeera Steel and Mr. Ramesh Mani, CEO, Majan Glass. The event was organized by the Entertainment committee of ISC, Sohar consisting of Mr. Sreekumar, Mr. Ravindran and Mr. Ramesh. Dr Rajiv Tandon, Chairman of the Indian Social Club, Sohar gave the welcome address while Mr. Sunil Sharma, General Secretary gave the vote of thanks.
